Description And Objectives

Hiring a foreign worker does not end once they start their position. For employers, managing work permits, expiration dates, statuses and renewal possibilities is an important matter of compliance, operational continuity and retention.

This training aims to equip HR professionals, managers and employers who already have foreign employees on staff, so they can better understand the key elements to monitor and the steps to anticipate. Participants will learn how to read a work permit, distinguish between the main statuses, track important deadlines and identify possible options when it is time to renew or modify a work authorization.

The objective is to help organizations implement a more structured and preventive approach to managing foreign employee files, in order to reduce the risks of errors, refusals, work interruptions or non-compliance.

No advanced immigration expertise is required, but the training is intended for people who already manage, or expect to manage, foreign employees within their organization.

Training Plan

  1. Understand the employer's responsibilities in managing work permits
  2. Know how to read the essential information on a work permit
  3. Identify the different statuses and their implications for the employer
  4. Track expiration dates and critical deadlines
  5. Understand the main renewal options
  6. Distinguish between available programs: Temporary Foreign Worker Program, International Mobility Program, Young Professionals and other relevant options
  7. Anticipate risks related to refusals, delays or changes in situation
  8. Verify related elements: SIN, RAMQ, passport and supporting documents
  9. Implement a checklist and an internal tracking system
  10. Adopt best practices to ensure employment continuity and reduce administrative risks

Target Audience

This training is intended for HR professionals, managers, SME leaders, payroll managers, administrative managers and anyone involved in managing foreign employees who are already in position.

It is particularly relevant for organizations that employ temporary foreign workers, need to manage several work permits or want to better anticipate renewals in order to avoid interruptions or risky situations.
